Description
1968 Wilt Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson Dual Autograph on the back of a Maurice Stokes Memorial Game Program with a JSA Auction House LOA from REA Auctions.“The Stokes Game” program from August 13, 1968, signed on the reverse in blue ink by Wilt Chamberlain, and in red ink by “Oscar Robertson. Both signatures are vintage and very nice early examples with no smudges or fading.
The autographed
program comes with an Auction LOA from James Spence Authenticators (JSA), and when
I purchased it from Robert Edward Auctions (REA) several years ago it was also pre-certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero of Beckett Authentication Services.
In
1958 Stokes suffered a head injury on the court that ultimately left him paralyzed for the remainder of his life. This
memorial game was an annual charity basketball game held every year, beginning in 1959 to help pay for Stokes’ medical bills. The game attracted all of the top players in the league at the time, including Chamberlain, Robertson, Cousy, Havlicek, Reed, and Monroe. As noted by the preprinted lineups on the interior, both Chamberlain and Robertson participated in the 1968 game.
The fold-over program (7 x 11 inches) displays a number of creases but is in good overall condition and would look great framed.
