  • Condition: Good antique condition. Some dings and dents in pipe. Threads good, .ight surface rust on iron mount plate. some cord wrapping base missing as shown. Unit was painted in the past with a copper metallic paint over brass, red paint over pipe wrapping, now exhibits wear from display, storage and handling.. No maker's or FD markings. Handles do not rotate freely, likely due to paint.

    Antique Solid Brass 30” Fire Hose Nozzle Underwriter's Playpipe Firefighting with iron Mount Plate from a Newburyport, MA firehouse long long ago, from an estate with  very old connections to the area nad firefighting
    with lots of family history in the city.
    Solid brass, used in service with associated dings and knocks
    No maker's markings or FD stamps visible, although there may be some under paint
    Traditional 2 1/2" base thread, 1 3/4" opening and 1 1/8" nozzle - standard for playpipes
    30 1/2" long overall, 3 1 1/4" with mount plate
    This piece has been used for display at some point after its service life - the exposed brass has been painted with a subdued copper metallic paint which shows some wear due to display and storage. But the paint can be removed to bring back original lustre.
    The cord wrappings around the pipe have been varnished and painted red, also traditional.  Some wrappings near the base of the pipe are missing, as shown
