Cie Maritime Belge's LEOPOLDVILLE of 1929 as built - torpedoed in 1944 (# 1)

Starboard stern view on a sepia-toned postcard of the Cie Maritime Belge's LEOPOLDVILLE of 1929 under tow.   She is seen here as originally built with two funnels and a a straight stem.  Taken in hand in 1935 for a thorough rebuild, she emerged lengthened with a raked bow and a larger single funnel.  Sadly, this handsome liner would be torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-486 in the English Channel on December 24th, 1944.
NOTE: We are also listing one lot of this ship after her 1935 rebuild.
This lovely postcard is in very good condition.
