Description
This is a Vintage Set of General Officer's Pilot's Wings from the Colombia Air Force, Awarded to Major General John K. Hester, US Air Force. The wings presented here are in perfect condition with zero defects with the enamel and golden color, save for a small red mark on the reverse of the wings. The pin fastener also works flawlessly and without issue, it being of the roller catch variety.
These wings have the flag of
Colombia
with the coat of arms upon the flag colors. With three stars inside a wreath that are
connected, these are the highest degree awarded and have no equivalent in the US as these are for General Officer's only and not indicative of the number of flying hours logged (ie our Command Pilot's Wings). These wings are without any display case, box, or corresponding paperwork/documentation.
Also included in this lot is a vintage studio photo of Major General John K. Hester.
Major General Hester's career began in 1938 and eventually took him to China where he flew 50 combat missions against the Japanese as a fighter pilot with the 14th Air Force, the famous "Flying Tigers." Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and Air Medal as a Squadron Commander, Hester later served on Curtis LeMay's Air Staff and became the Commanding General of the 17th Air Force at Ramstein AFB, Germany. His promising career was cut short when he succumbed to injuries resulting from a military parachute jump in April 1965.
