    Description

Fordite is sometimes referred to as "Detroit agate" or "motor agate" and it can be cut and polished, fordite is not a gemstone.  In the early years,
auto manufacturers began painting car bodies using a hand-spraying technique to speed up the painting process, and overspray would accumulate in the paint bays.
Over time, layer upon colorful layer would build up.
The pieces of enamel paint slag were repeatedly hardened in the ovens in which the cars went to cure the paint, according to
    Fordite.com
, with some of the layers baked up to 100 times.
There is a limited stock of Fordite available since the automobile industry uses a more modern technique of painting cars and trucks today.  Fordite has become more valuable as supply dwindles.    Rockhounds and jewelry makers have recycled the raw paint slabs into wonderful pieces of art. Here is your chance to own a piece of American history.
All Fordite posted here has been hand-cut and polished by me.
