Description
This is a RARE beautiful, whimsical, folky and “funny” cat figural done by the late Lin Craven (1946-2011). This cat is so darn cute! She is strutting her “stuff” with the wonderful pose created by this great potter. Her large strand of “pearls” around her neck and bright yellow hat with little red flowers, and very well-endowed she is, really makes a statement in this rare piece. This the one and only figural cat Lin has done. She measures approximately 6 ½” tall x 6 ¾” wide; she is a perfect size and has a beautiful olive-green glaze. Lin Craven was a well-known southern potter from Cleveland, GA and the world over. She has been honored by the Library of Congress and her works are displayed in several museums, including Atlanta History Center and The Smithsonian. Lin was a ninth-generation descendant of mid 1700’s “Master Potter” Peter Craven, Patriarch of Colonial Orange County, Providence of North Carolina (present day Randolph County). She is known for her whimsical and expressive pottery pieces just like this one. This beautiful cat is signed Lin Craven on the bottom and is about 20 years old. The detail on this little gem is wonderful, from the hat on her head to her pose with her arms, big green eyes, pug nose, curly tail and even her large bosom! This piece is in MINT condition. Take a good look at all the photos to see just how wonderful she is! Obviously, there will not be any more pieces of Lin’s pottery and this one would be a perfect addition to any collection!
