Here’s something you don’t see every day, and probably never will again because the only way to get one of these was to be there and pick one up from the pile that were on a table against the wall as you entered the concert hall on October 4, 1975. You needed something to check out and read (since it was free) to see who was playing later on in the month and read whatever was written about the nights main act (if you were lucky enough to get one from the correct night, and not leftovers from the concert playing there two or three nights earlier). You head down to row 7 and make your way in so you are just to the left of mid stage, turn around to see the huge packed balcony and wait for the opportunity to see in person what you had read about and heard about. Savoy Brown was the opening act, and although I had heard of them and had a couple of their albums, the group had changed a mess of times and the crowd that was there was in no mood to listen to anything except for what they had paid to see. By the fourth or fifth song, the audience wasn’t showing much appreciation for the music they were listening to, so Kim Simmonds walked behind the curtain and came back out wearing Gene Simmons fireman’s hat. I don’t know if it was a gesture to win the crowd or to tell them FU, but not too much later they left the stage a bit early amid a chorus of boos. What followed was one of the most incredible things I had ever seen or heard. The anticipation and high expectations I had were blown away before the band even started a song. By the time it was over, I still could not get over what I had just witnessed. On the way out, I noticed I didn’t have my flyer anymore, so I picked up another off of the lobby floor that hadn’t been walked on or dirtied as I headed out to where the car was parked a few blocks away.
You simply had to be there to believe it, and nothing since has come close to this night and it is impossible to explain it to anyone unless you were there. That is why these are so hard to find because it doesn’t matter what dollar value you put on it, if anyone has one they are holding on to it. Kind of like the first time anyone saw Hendrix, the Beatles or Stones, Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Sabbath, the Plasmatics or any life changing music act in a small cozy venue.
The buy it now was put in place only to see what kind of offers I would get and I didn’t want to sell myself short as I am in no hurry to sell it. This will probably be up for a while because I just would like to see what type of interest it generates.
