    Description

Here we have a fine Vietnam U.S. Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross that is in excellent condition. The planchet is with a beautiful smooth, dark bronze finish. The reverse in named to “NOLEN CHAFEN” in the Vietnam era style of engraving. It is suspended from its original ribbon, which is strong, solid and with vibrant color. The cross is mounted on a World War II style slot broach with its complete pin and catch assemblies on the back. During the early years of the Vietnam War, it was not uncommon to see World War II manufactured decorations being awarded in the field. Left over stocks of WWII medals were used up prior to the manufacturer of the newer awards with crimped broaches. This is an extremely fine-looking example of an early war DFC that remains in excellent condition. We have no information on the recipient other than he was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force in 1960.
