    Description

    This is a sweet piece! This is a 9 3/4" x 7" x 2 5/8" hinged wooden (cedar) Holy Bible storage box. Similar items like this date to the late 1940's-early 1950's. This piece has it's original finish, over cedar wood with very little signs of wear to the finish. The cover has "The Holy Bible" - with a picture of Jesus underneath - and "Niagara Falls, N.Y. embossed under the picture. I have researched this for the past few months, with no luck. I have seen others like this from other tourist destinations, but no others from Niagara Falls. The lower hinge appears to have been moved and reset, the original position for the hinge was directly in a knot of the wood. Every surface except the bottom (or back) of the piece has a gloss urethane type finish to it. There are no maker marks to the piece.
