    Description

    Fantastic vintage PIONEER PARACHUTE COMPANY PROMOTIONAL LAPEL PIN! This thing is really awesome, and tought to let go. Pioneer Parachute Co., Inc. was established in 1938 in Manchester, Connecticut as a subsidary of the Cheney Brothers Mills silk factory complex. As a result of a partnership with DuPont and the Air Force, they developed new parachutes. The company evolved into what is now the Pioneer Aerospace Corporation. This particular pin is not from their "Caterpillar Club", this pin, which is made of nickel plated brass, is a promotional pin made the Para-Commander & Para-Salil parachute. The pin's design reflects the new PC canopy, and were given to buyers of the new parachute rig. The pin dates from the mid 1960s. They were not made for military, but for the start of sport jumping, and thus are difficult to find.
